Clipped Wings by Helena Hunting

Review of Clipped Wings by Helena Hunting

For months and months and months I had been DYING to read this book. I literally became obsessed with getting my hands on this.  Luckily, I got the privilege to read and review this book for Netgalley.  I was terrified. I was so afraid that it wouldn't be what I had expected.. but guess what...

IT WAS SO MUCH MORE THAN EXCELLENT!

Description:
An emotional love story that follows the touch-and-go relationship of Hayden and Tenley; two young people who desperately want to love and be loved but are afraid to completely let go of their pasts.
As Hayden and Tenley navigate their newfound but slightly unstable relationship, they want to trust each other, but Hayden is hiding a dark and shameful past that he doesn't ever want Tenley to find out about. And Tenley has secrets of her own that could make Hayden run away forever. When Tenley asks Hayden to put a beautifully elaborate tattoo across her back, the two form what they thought was an unshakeable bond. But when Tenley's past shows up on her doorstep, will Hayden stand by her side...or run?
--------------------
We meet Tenley and Hayden.  Hayden is a tattoo artist and Inked Armour.  He has been crushing on Tenley who worked at the bookstore across the street from his tattoo shop with his Aunt.  They begin shamelessly flirting..well Hayden does most of the flirting.  Tenley is very quite and reserved and it takes her some time to break through that shell.  When she does, her and Hayden begin this indescribable relationship.

The relationship between Hayden and Tenley is one that I love.  Both have depressing pasts and both don't want to be so forth coming with their pasts.  Because of these secrets, it makes their relationship slightly strained.  They both believe that by revealing their pasts they will lose each other..however keeping those secrets ends up hurting them worse....

"Everyone has scars, Tenley.  If we're lucky, they're only on the outside"

Clipped Wings was everything I thought it would be an more.  Every scene had meaning.  There are many books out there that have useless scenes.. ones that have no meaning to the book.  Every single scene in Clipped Wings has meaning. It's important to this book and it is important to the relationship between Hayden & Tenley.

I loved Tenley. She wasn't selfish, she was quite. I loved watching her break out of her shell.  You could tell that she was very passionate about many things in life but was afraid to really act on those passions.  She was vulnerable, but not in the annoying sense.  She was vulnerable to the point of just wanted to give her a big 'ol hug.

Hayden...::sigh:: I loved Hayden.  Even though he had a messed up past I loved him.  He was trying so hard to get away from that past even before his relationship with Tenley took off. He was possessive enough, loving enough, funny enough..basically just perfect.

"What are you trying to prove?"
"I don't know. I need you." she whispered.
"It's okay, kitten, I need you just as much."

I am dying to read Inked Armour to see how Tenley & Hayden's relationship develops.  Clipped Wings ends in heart break and I hope they both can find their HEA in Inked Armour!
